Hello! My name is Anne G’Fellers-Mason, and I am proud to be a new author with Mountain Gap Books. My first novel The Summer Between will be released on October 1st! The word surreal doesn’t begin to cover the feeling. The book is contemporary, young adult fiction, which really means it can be enjoyed by anyone roughly 13 years of age or older. I love young adult fiction. It’s probably what I read the most of, when I’m not reading history books or 19th century newspapers for my day job.

I wrote my first novel when I was 12 years old. It’s still on my hard drive, but it’s time is coming. I wrote The Summer Between several years later during the summer months of 2009. The book follows Brendon Murphy on his adventures, or misadventures during those few months between high school graduation and college orientation. His plans include camping, spending time with his friends, winning a local singer/songwriter competition, and winning the heart of the girl of his dreams. His plans do not include a dead end job, and they especially do not include spending the summer with his older brother Derrick.

The Summer Between is a coming of age story, a snapshot of a time when nothing is certain in life, except change. How Brendon survives the summer will determine what kind of person he is.

Elephant in the room, I was never an eighteen-year-old boy, but I was eighteen years old once. I can remember the fear, the anticipation, and the uncertainty. Part of my experiences influenced Brendon and his summer, but it is ultimately his story, and he asked me to tell it for him.

My writing influences are many, and I’m always looking for my next favorite book. I highly enjoy the works of F Scott Fitzgerald, Gary Paulsen, JK Rowling, Stephen King, Natalie Babbitt, John Green, Neil Gaiman, and many more! I love it when the humor is mixed in with the serious, because that is 100% life, and I tried to capture that in my words in The Summer Between.

To quote Brendon, “I’m terrified and nauseous but overjoyed all at the same time, and I think that’s how living is supposed to feel.”

I hope you enjoy The Summer Between. Once you read it, please leave a review on Amazon and GoodReads! I look forward to sharing more of my work with the world through Mountain Gap Books.
