Introducing First-Time Novelist Anne G’Fellers-Mason, Author of The Summer Between

Hello! My name is Anne G’Fellers-Mason, and I am proud to be a new author with Mountain Gap Books. My first novel The Summer Between will be released on October 1st! The word surreal doesn’t begin to cover the feeling. The book is contemporary, young adult fiction, which really means it can be enjoyed by anyone roughly 13 years of age or older. I love young adult fiction. It’s probably what I read the most of, when I’m not reading history books or 19th century newspapers for my day job.

I wrote my first novel when I was 12 years old. It’s still on my hard drive, but it’s time is coming. I wrote The Summer Between several years later during the summer months of 2009. The book follows Brendon Murphy on his adventures, or misadventures during those few months between high school graduation and college orientation. His plans include camping, spending time with his friends, winning a local singer/songwriter competition, and winning the heart of the girl of his dreams. His plans do not include a dead end job, and they especially do not include spending the summer with his older brother Derrick.

The Summer Between is a coming of age story, a snapshot of a time when nothing is certain in life, except change. How Brendon survives the summer will determine what kind of person he is.

Elephant in the room, I was never an eighteen-year-old boy, but I was eighteen years old once. I can remember the fear, the anticipation, and the uncertainty. Part of my experiences influenced Brendon and his summer, but it is ultimately his story, and he asked me to tell it for him.

My writing influences are many, and I’m always looking for my next favorite book. I highly enjoy the works of F Scott Fitzgerald, Gary Paulsen, JK Rowling, Stephen King, Natalie Babbitt, John Green, Neil Gaiman, and many more! I love it when the humor is mixed in with the serious, because that is 100% life, and I tried to capture that in my words in The Summer Between.

To quote Brendon, “I’m terrified and nauseous but overjoyed all at the same time, and I think that’s how living is supposed to feel.”

I hope you enjoy The Summer Between. Once you read it, please leave a review on Amazon and GoodReads! I look forward to sharing more of my work with the world through Mountain Gap Books.

SHORT BLURB: When I was eighteen, I knew everything about the history of the entire world. Thank God for summer break, for those ten weeks between high school and college when life took me roughly by the collar, shook me hard, and said with a deep, guttural laugh, “Buckle up, kid, ‘cause I’m drivin’, and you don’t know squat.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Anne G’Fellers-Mason lives in the oldest town in Tennessee. By day, she works for the local historical society in Jonesborough. She has a BA in Theatre/History from Mars Hill University, an MA in History from East Tennessee State University, and an MFA in Playwriting from Hollins University. She gets to put all her studies to use at the Heritage Alliance where she writes local history-based plays. Her first novel, The Summer Between, is a work of contemporary, young adult fiction. Anne lives with the love of her life and their rambunctious cats in a family compound.

MGB September News, Information, and Upcoming Releases

It’s September, and Hurricane Florence is bearing down on the east coast of the United States, bringing possible heavy rain and tropical storm level winds to us here in Tennessee. One of our authors will be a vendor at a local festival this weekend, so our fingers are crossed that Florence has a change of heart and stays out to sea.

Our third title, a wonderful contemporary YA work by new novelist Anne G’Fellers-Mason titled The Summer Between will be available in both print and ebook formats on October 1st, 2018. You can read the blurb on the MGB home page.

Our first title, Rhea Wells Boy of Jonesborough, will be changing distribution points later this year from CreateSpace to Ingram, and the ebook version will become available through both Amazon and other retailers. Look for more on that later. Right now, the print distribution remains through the MGB online store, the Jonesborough Visitor’s Center, and Amazon.

On a similar but different note, our second title, Cleaning House – Appalachian Elementals #1, is receiving some wonderful reviews. You can read a smattering of these in the graphic below. We’re also happy to announce that Mama, Me, and the Holiday Tree – Appalachian Elementals #1 ½ , a novella-length ebook, will be available November 5th.

And, last but not least, we’re assembling the 2019 publishing calendar here at MGB, and we’re looking for a few good titles that fit our guidelines. We’ll also be posting a call for submission for an anthology very soon, so be on the lookout for it.

Check back soon for the date and time for Anne G’Fellers-Mason’s first book signing event for The Summer Between.
